They will also provide small emergency funds to grassroots organisations who are providing front line services to refugees and asylum seekers in European and MENA refugee camps. Working with the organisations they fund, they will enhance the voice of those who have been affected by the refugee crisis in considered media campaigns.

Refugee Trauma Initiative will run their two main programmes for young people and children (with their parents) of refugee and asylum seeker status. Funding will cover 3 years of a proportion of their core costs in Greece, where they operate in 6 regions. RTI works with refugees and asylum seekers, as well as young people from the local communities to provide psycho-social care through its community based approach in it's Baytna early childhood development model. RTI also runs skills training through the use of media and arts for young people between 15-24 (Dinami), to help them build a community network and support them as they transition to adulthood, through a trauma informed approach.

In September 2017 RefuAid launched the first (and only) nationwide loan scheme for refugees. The loan scheme provides support to those who have be granted refugee status and have full rights to remain and to work. We offer interest-free loans of up to £10,000, for internationally-trained refugees to pay for UK accreditation, re-qualification or training, enabling them to return to employment in their prior professional fields. Loans are assessed on a character-basis, harnessing the power of human relationships to provide lifelines to individuals who have no alternative access to credit. Repayment plans are worked out on an individual basis with the applicant.

This £2m grant to Help Refugees supports people along the route as they are forced to flee their homes and make the treacherous, journey from the Middle East and North Africa into Europe and towards the UK, routinely facing risk of physical and sexual violence and often enduring State endorsed hostility and brutality. This grant will pilot our new way of working with Intermediary funders, sharing governance and co-creating a programme of support and funding, which shifts the power to grassroots communities and reaches places and people we wouldn’t traditionally have been able to reach. Help Refugees is a young and dynamic organisation that provides direct service delivery as well as support and funding to small grassroots organisations in 10 countries. They have developed a model of practice which is effective and measurable and which above everything is able to evidence that individuals are treated with Humanity, Dignity, Respect and Hope. (Their widely recognised ‘Choose Love’ Campaign has become a worldwide movement promoting hope, unity and positivity supported by many high-profile individuals)

Following the devastating treatment of children during & post demolition of the Calais camp and the fire at Dunkirk camp, there are hundreds of displaced unaccompanied child refugees (UASC) sleeping rough with no support or protection and in immediate danger. Many of these children have a legal right to be in the UK, but don't trust the system and are risking their lives attempting to reach the UK illegally.Through this grant, Help Refugees will establish effective systems for ensuring the rights and safety of UASC are achieved through accurate data led advocacy and direct support, delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary and peripatetic team via the mobile youth centre, a bus donated by Emma Thompson. It should be noted that no other agency is collating data on these children and their census of UASC proved essential and invaluable when the UK and French governments implemented an expedited process during the demolition of the Calais ‘Jungle’.
