Dorset Mind is a local charity that provides mental health services to help people recover from mental ill health, prevent mental ill health and maintain their wellbeing. We are applying for funding towards expanding our accredited befriending service, to help vulnerable members of the community who are suffering with their mental health due to the impact of Covid-19. Funding will be used to cover the costs of additional befriending coordinator hours and training more befriending volunteers to ensure we can meet the unprecedented increased demand for the service. The aim of the project is to prevent long-term mental health illnesses, such as clinical depression, generalised anxiety disorder and crisis point or suicide developing as a result of loneliness and isolation, to provide regular essential human contact and to encourage reengagement with friends, family and the community.
