The funding will allow Chapter to expand and adapt their core services supporting people living with serious mental illness (SMI) or mild mental ill health across Cheshire West and Chester. Set up in 1991 as a result of collaboration between people experiencing mental ill-health and health professionals Chapter offers support and provides opportunities to people who have a severe and enduring mental illness diagnosis. They provide direct support to 300 people recovering from Serious Mental Illness (SMI) every year as well as supporting community groups to improve well-being with a total of 2153 attendances at 1253 different sessions recorded last year. Funding will help Chapter to develop and continue its current activities as well as introducing a new project called ‘Grow.’ Through Grow Chapter will pilot more targeted delivery to more focussed groups of people alongside their current open door policy of delivery to mixed groups. Currently the groups are made up of a mix of people of all ages genders disabilities sexualities races and religions.

Chapter is a mental health charity, based in Cheshire, dedicated to supporting people living with mental ill-health by helping them to improve their lives through one-to-one support, creative activities, and workshops. The project will fund Chapter to support 16 people experiencing a personal mental health crisis through the delivery of two specialist six-week RE:SET programmes of wellbeing and resilience workshops. The grant funding will be used to pay for a specialist Wellbeing Coach to deliver the two workshop programmes, as well as contributing to room hire costs, refreshments, publicity, and volunteer costs. Each six-week RE:SET programme will support disadvantaged and vulnerable participants, who are living with or experiencing mental ill-health, to improve their wellbeing by helping them to set and work towards achievable personal goals and reduce their feelings of anxiety and isolation.  

The project will provide people aged 18 plus who are living with serious mental illness ways to improve mental wellbeing and feel less isolated. The project will run a series of daytime activities.

Chapter is a mental health charity for adults in West Cheshire, whose work includes supporting people to manage Serious Mental Illness (SMI) through community-based activities and providing wellbeing toolkits to enable people to improve their own wellbeing; the overall aim for this client group is to manage their illness and stay out of hospital, decrease their isolation, and maintain their independence. The ‘Aspire’ service will provide one-to-one support and community-based group activities for people living with an SMI to manage their illness and encourage positive outcomes. The grant funding will be used towards the delivery costs of Aspire, including the salaries of key staff delivering the programme (Chapter’s expert Wellbeing Coaches) and room hire to provide a safe space for one-to-one support sessions. Aspire supports over 100 adults who are living with a serious mental illness – such as schizophrenia - across Cheshire West and Chester and is a lifeline for some of the most marginalised and isolated people in society – the support enables people to develop connections, improve their self-worth and rebuild their lives.

Chapter is a local mental health charity experiencing a doubling in demand for its services since lockdown started. We are seeking funding to put in place resources that will enable us to sustain the level of work outputs we are experiencing (keeping our staff safe, mentally well and connected to each other) whilst trialling new ways of delivering our support services that meets current social restrictions and keeps our service-users safe and reassured. The grant will be used to set up a pod room (similar to a counselling room) , provide us with apps and subscriptions to reduce high workloads and make us more financially sustainable, and provide staff with equipment that enables them to work from home as a more permanent option. The impact of this project will mean that we can sustain supporting double the number of people that we normally support; each year we normally work with 140 people - we believe these adaptations will help us support approximately 280-300 people per annum.

Chapter provides mental health support for people living in the Cheshire area. Chapter will deliver telephone based support service to people living with a severe mental illness, ensuring they have access to basic needs and medication and are keeping safe and mentally well. The grant will pay for the staffing costs for this project. Coronavirus lockdown puts people in the community at risk of suicide, mania episodes and self-harm, and regular telephone contact offering advice and interventions will reduce need for emergency services involvement, emergency beds, and deployment of the emergency mental health and social care teams.

The project will deliver two 6-week mental wellbeing courses to expectant mothers (16 per course) who experience mild-to moderate mental health problems, for example anxiety and depression. Chapter will work in partnership with Milestone Mums, a local community group focusing on the mental wellbeing of mothers of young children. BUMP's aim is to help women to be ready for the challenges of parenthood, and reduce the chances of poor mental health affecting them or their children. Over the course of the 6 weeks, in addition to getting key guidance and support, mums-to-be will put together an 'art journal' which will be designed to bring them inspiration, wisdom and guidance during the challenging early months of their child's life, ensuring they have something tangible to take from the course that will continue to help them in the future. A grant will pay for staff costs, venue hire, refreshments, materials, publicity and volunteer expenses.

Our RESET course will aim to provide basic life skills training to residents of Ellesmere Port who are struggling with their mental health. The grant funding will be used to pay for course materials, room hire, refreshments, and the costs of the course facilitator's time and expenses. This course will empower vulnerable people in Ellesmere Port with the confidence and skills to reach their potential, and equip them with the ways to manage their mental health that will reduce the likelihood of more serious problems further down the line.

Training opportunities supported participants to become volunteer activity leaders or service user representatives on the Board of Trustees.
