Virgin Money Foundation YMCA North Tyneside owns a large building in North Tyneside which has been recently refurbished. It runs a large well equipped gym with a café, provides training and education, support to families and young people and emergency accommodation for young homeless people, many of whom have just left local authority care. Last year it was awarded £41,393 to employ one full-time tenancy officer and to provide additional sessional worker support to enable the young people it houses to better manage their tenancies and to help them to secure and maintain move-on accommodation. To continue this activity it has applied to the Foundation for £49,702 to run an employment programme and to employ a part-time Enterprise Development Manager to support the increasing number of social enterprises owned and run by the charity.
