"The fund aims to:1) To reduce closures of essential charities that provide essential services to vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 crisis by ensuring they have the financial resources to operate, thereby reducing the burden on public services.2) To ensure essential services are provided to vulnerable people, both in the short and long term through increased community support through the work of charitable organisations."

We are an emergency shelter that became an emergency hotel during the pandemic. We support people experiencing homelessness to access long term accommodation and become resettled.

We will flip the traditional model for employment support and show that people recovering from homelessness don’t always have to spend years getting “work ready” – they can learn on the job and get the benefits immediately. Work First will find suitable jobs for people in Reading, then stay with them, supporting both them and the employer at every step. Reading employers will feel more confident hiring and supporting people who have been homeless. People recovering from a long time spent in hostels or on the streets will gain structure to their days and a steady income. They will have the best possible chance to thrive in their new flat or house, and avoid ever having to be homeless again.

Our night shelters in Bristol, St Anne’s House and the Compass Centre, which offer emergency accommodation, support and advice to people sleeping rough and people at risk of homelessness.

Homelessness is isolating, stigmatising and dehumanising. Peer Facilitation Courses provide accredited training for those experiencing homelessness; giving them the chance to become peer facilitators themselves.Women will gain the skills and confidence they need to facilitate recovery workshops for their peers. The stigma and isolation felt by those who have experienced homelessness means that people are often reluctant to engage and open up, but having peer facilitators creates an open and safe environment for vulnerable people struggling with low confidence. Recovery workshops are tailored to meet the needs of those who want to move on from homelessness, and so can cover anything from personal development and self-esteem to relationships.

St Mungo will deliver a Pan London Housing, Advice, Resettlement and Prevention (HARP) service to people who are or are at risk of homelessness, providing holistic intervention. Proposed activities: o A through-the-gate service, enabling people access to intervention and housing, promoting a smooth transition into communities. o A service which is flexible to the demand of need 'making each contact count', allocating specialist workers in each region who will work and receive referrals from probation/CRCs, local authorities, GPs and prisons in that region. o A Central Hub providing access to intervention for people through self-referral route o A Help-line for outside London Prisons and probation/CRCs discharging people returning to London. o Specialist intervention, advocacy and housing promoting the well-being and interests of individuals with protected characteristics, No recourse to public funds and complex needs inclusive of mental health and substance use. o A catalogue of services and private landlords within each borough to support better outcomes. o An emergency discretionary access fund to purchase small essential needs led resources for our clients, instigated by the project workers (such as fees relating to access to birth certificates, travel etc.) o Promotion of education, employment and volunteering, inclusive of peer volunteering opportunities. Proposed outcomes: o People housed, engaged in positive intervention and activities; sustaining their tenures in a safe environment.

The housing association will build on its successful pilot project working with homeless people from the Horn of Africa in the organisations hostel’s located in Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth to improve their life skills and health in order to rebuild their lives. This will include workshops four days per week in English, maths and ICT as well as therapeutic and arts based activities to improve mental and physical wellbeing.

As well as access to facilities like showering, laundry and medical specialists at the group’s Broadway Centre, information will be available on health and social services, with referrals to more intensive services. There will be workshops on topics like mental and physical health, and peer support to meet others with lived experience.
