The project will use its funding over 4 years to support the development and delivery of the organisation’s Care Advice Services. These services provide information advocacy and support to children in care and care leavers across England. It will develop an additional Advice and Support Officer who will build staff capacity allowing them to extend their advice line to include evening and weekends to fit around work or education. Further individual support and advocacy will be available with the option of several tailored 1:1 sessions enabling young people to feel more in control of their situation. This guidance will be given over the phone digitally or face to face (where appropriate).

There are about 68,840 children under the age of 18 in care in England, most of whom face barriers and challenges in their lives, experiencing higher rates of unemployment and fewer educational qualifications that can limit future wellbeing. There are few opportunities for young people in care to directly influence the way care services are shaped to meet their immediate and future needs. The project, “Passport to Parliament”, supports young people in 6 English regions to develop skills and confidence to attend “All Party Parliamentary Group” meetings at Westminster, and to meet with policy makers more locally, to influence policy and practice.
