FYA marks 25 years of Youth Action this year and will celebrate throughout the year organising a series of intergenerational events to increase community cohesion around South Camden. Young people will organise a Christmas Dinner, Street Planting Day, Cumberland FunFest & the Fitzrovia Street Party

The funding will be used to stage a community planting day. The project aims to bring people together encouraging young people to integrate with the local community and improve social relations.

COVID19 - The grant will fund a youth worker, sports coach and peer support worker to support children and young people from BAME communities who are isolated at home due to Covid-19, and help them improve their overall wellbeing.

We advocate a strengths-based approach to voluntary social-action, helping young women identify their skills and abilities and feel more empowered in themselves. We will help the young women further develop existing life skills and experiences. For example, providing mutual-aid through listening, making constructive suggestions and encouraging peers. The project will improve a wide range of soft skills and improve aspirations, motivation and confidence. As an organisation we strive to increase emotional resilience, wellbeing transferable skills and community belonging amongst young people. Through this project young women from disadvantaged backgrounds will organise and participate in regular sport and exercise. We will produce the following outcomes for all participants: Improved physical health Increased knowledge about local sport and exercise opportunities that are suitable. Improved social opportunities through sport. Increased emotional resilience and positive wellbeing. Improved physical fitness and social mobility An increased sense of community belonging. This project goes beyond by promising the following additional outcomes: Improved understanding of mental health issues. An opportunity to connect to other young people and reduce isolation. Through co-producing and delivering activities to their peers, young women will benefit from the following outcomes: Increased team working, communication and leadership skills. Increased ability to articulate qualities and skill sets in CVs and future applications. Better prerequisites for obtaining better employment, training and educational opportunities.

This group will expand their project which empowers young people aged 8 to 24 to be drivers of social change in their community. Young people will be supported in organising consultations which will inform a variety of activities they will organise to benefit others and the wider community. They will organise educational workshops in local schools, community centres, and youth agencies. Topics will include mental health, drugs and alcohol, bullying, relationships, body image, knife crime and online safety.

The project will provide a weekly drop in youth service to children and young people who are from BME backgrounds and live in areas of local deprivation. The service will improve physical health, increase emotional well-being and confidence.

This project will deliver a programme of peer support activities that will focus upon challenging issues surrounding bullying. This will equip those taking part with new communication skills.

FYA is seeking core support as it seeks to build on its record as a leading Camden youth organisation with a strong model of youth-led community development that has influenced statutory provision and been copied by others. Following two years of planning, it is moving into income generation, through taking over responsibility for a local all-weather pitch and multi-purpose building.
