KRAN has established youth leadership at the organisational level by employing four Youth Ambassadors (YA) through its Youth Ambassadors Programme. This grant will support two more young people to become Youth Ambassadors, using their agency, influence and voice in the public domain.

Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN) aims to support refugee and asylum seeking young people to fulfil their potential through being empowered and developing positive connections with local community networks. The funding will be used to contribute towards six staff members' salaries within the advocacy team to engage with young people. The KRAN advocacy team supports young refugee and asylum seekers through the care system in Kent. Challenges facing these young people include housing, benefits, immigration, legal issues, mental health and wellbeing issues.

This project supports unaccompanied teenage asylum seekers through mentoring and befriending. The project currently works in Canterbury and will expand to provide a befriending service in Ashford, Folkestone, Ramsgate and Dover. Volunteer mentors are recruited from the local community and receive full training. Mentors will assist young asylum seekers to overcome barriers to accessing services, helping them to settle in the local area, build up their language skills and educational capacity.
