Maggie’s Merseyside offers practical and emotional support for free to anyone with cancer and their families. They help people take back control when cancer turns their life upside down, by providing expert support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries and how to cope with the isolation of shielding. Maggie's responded rapidly to the pandemic by adapting services, meaning that people with cancer and their families can find a way to cope with the devastating impact of having cancer during the pandemic. Maggie's Frontline - Cancer Support Specialists are the first point of contact for the majority of our centre visitors. With NHS background in oncology, they are knowledgeable in the challenges people with cancer may face and are able to support them with the guidance, clarity and reassurance that they need to be well informed about their diagnosis. This project will help fund the the salary cost of a Cancer Support Specialist to facilitate a number of cancer support groups and one to one appointments face to face within the Maggie's Centre following the easing of restriction.

Maggie's works on the front-line meeting the ever growing needs of people living with cancer. This vital need has never been greater amid the fears and desperation the coronavirus brings on top of a cancer diagnosis. The project 'Here With You' will safeguard this care during this crisis, Maggie's will be offering specialist support and guidance to individuals affected by cancer. As community support services have retracted, paused or ceased operations during the pandemic, Maggie's continues to offer bespoke support by delivering person centred 1:1 support, psycho-educational groups via phone and video call and practical help with finances. People affected by cancer can often experience psychological distress as a result of their diagnosis, and Covid-19 has introduced even more uncertainty and distress into the lives of many people. By acknowledging the complex psycho social difficulties facing our centre visitors at the moment, Maggie's is offering a supportive, compassionate safe space for people in our region. Acting now in this urgency of the pandemic and supporting the most vulnerable people will have positive outcomes and make a significant difference, improving physical and emotional well-being, meaning people are not isolated when they need us most.
