The fund will also seek to address the significant financial disadvantage many carers face, by not only providing free access to study, but also additional financial support to assist students in travelling to exams, purchasing set books and other incidental costs related to studying.

EY FOUNDATION In 2017, 40% of care leavers aged 19-21 were Not in Education Training or Employment (NEET) compared to 13% of that age group. There is a clear need to support care experienced young people to improve their outcomes. In 2019, the Caretech Foundation entered into exciting partnership with the EY Foundation, an organisation which supports young people with barriers in their transition into work. A key element of this partnership involved the development of a new bespoke programme that meets the needs of young people in care and enables them to realise their future potential. Care to Employment has been co-designed with professionals in the care sector, national employers and 80 care experienced young people across England. We asked young people ?What matters to you??. They told us they want support in enhancing the opportunities available to them, employability skills, quality work experience, budgeting / life skills, mental wellbeing alongside 1 to 1 tailored support through business mentoring and a bespoke careers bursary. Care to Employment will have 5 key pillars of qualitative evaluation for the programme and we would expect all the young people to report an enhanced level of the following benchmarks post programme: ? Enhanced self-confidence and skills and qualities ? Better knowledge of careers and job application skills ? Improved self-awareness including larger personal and professional networks ? Stronger self and career ambition ? Financial literacy skills. A grant from the CareTech Foundation will support 30 young people in three cohorts in Barnet and Manchester.
