In this two-year project a Volunteer Coordinator continued the delivery and expansion of a range of activities for older, disabled and isolated people living in and around the Warren Farm Estate in Kingstanding, Birmingham. In response to council cuts leading to a lack of facilities and activities, a volunteer coordinator recruited, trained and supported volunteers from the local community to deliver activities such as lunch clubs, Tai Chi, arts and crafts, a mental health group, community meals, and a daily community café offering a space to meet and chat and enjoy affordable meals and snacks. The project provided a range of opportunities for people to meet each other, socialise, and become more active in their community. Participants shaped the project through monthly focus groups, regular opportunities to feed back, and through a project management team involving elected group members.
