The project responds to shortages in practical mental health support and services for migrant and refugee women. We will develop peer to peer support for women living in Greater London, who experience multiple disadvantage, including homelessness, disability, language barriers and vulnerability to exploitation. Through the network and the facilitating role of Migrants Organise women will share experiences, support each other and determine project activities. This will result in:Improved mental health and wellbeing;Development of resilience and coping mechanisms;Reduced loneliness and isolation;Growth in meaningful connections;Increased sense of empowerment. The project will have four components which taken together will change lives for the better:1. A womens support group to provide a safe space for peer exchange and the shaping of project activities2. Monthly workshops and skill-sharing sessions between the women who will decide what they would like to do but may include storytelling, art and crafts such as crochet, music, IT, CV writing, language, cooking, gardening, health and yoga;3. Group outings to create a sense of belonging to the group;4. Local befriending groups across London to enable women to support each other and access services in their area.Other differences will include positive benefits for the children of some women in the project. Also we will share and learn with others taking part to build on our peer-peer experience so it becomes core to our holistic approach which already combines legal advice, group activities and one to one mentoring.
