The funding will be used to fund three new full time senior leadership positions Service Leads for i) HIV and Mental Health ii) Sexual & Reproductive Health Promotion iii) a Business Development Manager & an external consultant for one year to support Trustees and Senior Management to develop a new strategic plan and income generation strategy. These positions will strengthen the organisation’s infrastructure long-term financial resilience & evidence their relevance & need in the sexual health space. They specialize in working with intersectionalities around ethnicity gender sexuality religion culture HIV sex work & aim to adopt a bold & intentional approach to support good sexual health outcomes for Black Brown & minoritized communities & reduce the health outcome disparities faced by this demographic across London. They originally requested £350000 over 4 years (TPC of £700K) at stage 1 however after reviewing their budget & conversations with the FO they increased their request to the above to take into account the cost of living rise & to attract the right staff. Naz Project has previously received TNLCF funding to deliver linguistically & culturally appropriate sexual health services to Black Brown & Minoritized communities in London.

The funding will be used to support BAME communities & people living with HIV in London via advocacy & casework services ensuring that delivery is culturally & linguistically appropriate. The project aims to improve psychological health reduce isolation& anxiety for BAME LGBTQI+ people living with HIV and other vulnerable marginalized people as well as improving access to community-based HIV screening services.

In 2018 approximately 11,100 women of potentially menopausal age (45-56) attended for HIV care in the UK, a 5-fold increase over 10 years. BAME women make up 79% of women receiving HIV care. HIV+ women are more likely to be at risk of early menopause than women without HIV and a lower CD4 count can make women living with HIV more vulnerable to early menopause. Goal: To create a body of work that validates, stimulates and educates audiences about the impact of HIV on the Menopause. Innovation: Taking an early intervention, positive psychology and sex positive approach to the menopause. Creating safe spaces to give creative expression to one the most under spoken and under researched areas of womens lives. The creation of eight 2 hour on line writing workshops to develop a body of work for performance, designed to blow the lid of this extraordinary time, leading to myth busting, self-esteem building, research generating, taboo breaking, public and online performance. Impact: Improved awareness of the lived experience of women living with HIV & the menopause. Reduced stigma & increased opportunities to identify recommendations develop evidence to shape wrap around care & support & policy.

Violence against women (VAW) is recognised as a major public health issue and violation of human rights by the WHO, and affects 1 in 3 women globally. Intimate partner violence (IPV) defined as ....more

Violence against women (VAW) is recognised as a major public health issue and violation of human rights by the WHO, and affects 1 in 3 women globally. Intimate partner violence (IPV) defined as physical, sexual or psychological abuse by a current or former partner has been experienced by at least 26.6% of women in England & Wales since they were aged 16 (Smith et al.02012). IPV is the leading cause of morbidity for women aged 19-44 years (Home Office).The health consequences of IPV are wide ranging and can last for many years after the abuse has ended. The impact on sexual health (SH) includes increased rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), poor reproductive health outcomes such as unwanted pregnancy and sexual dysfunction.Women who have experienced IPV are 1.5x more likely to acquire HIV and other STIs (Li et al. 2014). Women living with HIV are also at least 2x more likely to have experienced IPV (Dhairyawan et al. 2012) and therefore NICE, BHIVA, BASHH and the FSRH recommend IPV training for staff and IPV screening in sexual health and HIV services.Despite this, there are no national recommendations or specific guidance on SH and HIV awareness training for VAW organisations. NAZ therefore plan to create and deliver a training package on SH and HIV to staff working at 10 VAW organisations in East and South London (e.g. Gaia). This will include the increased risk of acquisition of STIs and HIV, screening and prevention tools such as PrEP. This would be combined with referral pathways for STI/HIV testing at NAZ, Barts Health NHS Trust, signposting to other SH clinics and information on home testing kits.This package will be complemented by promotional material such as leaflets and posters to be used and distributed in VAW agencies and an online at the end of the period, NAZ aim to set up a round table discussion with national VAW organisations to present the projects findings, promote STI/HIV testing and influence national recommendations on training.

The project will deliver choir workshops that are designed to support people who live with the effects of HIV. The aim is to improve wellbeing and reduce isolation.

This project will provide a series of photographic workshops for women living with HIV. This will enable them to explore and share their experiences with peers, improving their health and wellbeing.
