This funding will be used to continue and expand a creative and social programme of weekly meetups for people with dementia and their carers in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. The project will focus on sessional work for small groups using music visual art performance art dance outdoor activities and movement to counter the extreme loneliness and isolation experienced by people with dementia. It will be an extension of their established work plus a newer element of pilot work with younger people who have received dementia diagnoses.

The funding will allow communities to come together with their ideas to create community parades songs dance and drama activities with local schools and community groups as part of a celebratory community performance during the Jubilee weekend. The project will bring together seven diverse groups within the community (30 people per group) alongside people in the wider community in three phases who will focus on a specific decade of the Queen’s reign in order to celebrate the last 70 years. These celebrations will create a legacy event in each community and illustrate the key concepts of ‘Past (who were were) Present (who we are) and Future (where we want to be)'. Running through each of the celebratory themes will be a focus on green solutions demonstrating the ‘Seed of Change’ that each community will commit to.

Grant funding would pay to continue and grow regular weekly creative educational drama activities (35 weeks) for home educated children. The project will focus on an end performance which will teach children that working collaboratively towards a shared goal can be achieved when there is aspiration and hard work. There will also be a sharing event with parents at the same time, to support activities and encourage creative approaches to their children's learning. The biggest impact that this project will provide to home educated children will be that of creating aspiration. Many children who have lost faith in the education sector need other sources of inspiration to get their lives on track. A grant would pay for professional practitioners, travel expenses for those who need it most, snacks, theatre visits, and visiting professionals.

New Vic Borderlines specialise in using theatre to help individuals find new and positive ways to understand themselves, their communities and their responsibilities as citizens. Love hurts? is a project which takes a hard-hitting play and workshops to teenage children in schools and colleges. The play tackles the issue of domestic abuse (verbal, physical, mental and virtual abuse), especially acknowledging inappropriate behavior and recognizing the misuse of social media in relationships. The workshops further explore issues relating to the play and the significant change in attitudes and behavior that could help young people to recognize early signs of abuse, either in their relationships, those of family members or friends to take action. Funding will allow us to take the project to over 1,000 young people in Cheshire schools and colleges.

The New Vic Theatre works with disadvantaged communities to target specific areas of need with innovative and aspirational projects that strike in the heart of social problems. The Reconnect Theatre Project aims to reach some of the most disadvantaged, troubled and disengaged children and families, who find themselves in a home educating situation, because they have run out of other viable options. Grant funding would pay for regular weekly sessions (20 weeks) held at the New Vic by professional practitioners, some travel expenses for those who need it most, a small snack, visits to the theatre to watch what is being studied, and the benefit of meeting visiting professionals to learn from and gain inspiration. The biggest impact that this project will provide to home educated children will be that of creating aspiration. Many children who have lost faith in the education sector need other sources of inspiration to get their lives on track. New Vic Borderlines specialise in using theatre to help individuals find new and positive ways to understand themselves, their communities and their responsibilities as citizens. Message Not Delivered is a project which takes a hard-hitting play and workshops to driving age children in schools and colleges. The play tackles the issue of distractions whilst driving, especially the use of mobile phones and the often traumatic, catastrophic or fatal consequences that can arise if things go wrong. The workshops further explore issues relating to the play and the change in attitiudes and behaviour that could prevent such dire consequences. Funding will allow us to take the project to 1320 young people in Cheshire schools and colleges.

Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire Theatre Trust (New Vic Theatre) provide theatre and creative arts facilites. The project introduces families to active approaches in spending quality time together, developing communication and making storytelling central to their home routines - and, by association, nurturing language skills from an early age. The project workshops will be delivered at two Children's Centres in Crewe and culminate in a trip to the theatre to see an immersive and interactive version of the Snow Queen. The grant will make a 50% contribution towards the total project costs of practitioners, management, lunches, travel, tickets, filming and management.

Towards the salary of an Assistant Director to support the artistic development and delivery of show transfers and touring.
