1 - Cheshire Young Carers delivers support to children with caring responsibilities across Cheshire aged 6-18 years old who care for someone they live with, this is typically a parent and/or sibling. 2 - This project will deliver key empowerment, alongside holiday programmes delivering Cheshire Young Carers' core objectives - improving physical health & wellbeing, mental health & emotional wellbeing, education and independence, participation & inclusion, enrichment, personal & social development. 3 - They currently run regular family cooking sessions online, the recipes are often restricted due to the equipment and resources that families have available - including families on low income who do not engage as well with these sessions. They would use this grant to buy slow cookers, the required food and recipe books to enable them to join in with the sessions. 4 - In the current climate, more pressure is placed on families due to Covid-19 pandemic and financial issues, with young carers often living with families where there are already additional/complex needs, so this project will significantly help to address some of these key issues in several aspects - reducing isolation, improving overall wellbeing and contributing to improved child outcomes for young carers across Cheshire.

Cheshire Young Carers support young carers living across Cheshire offering respite activities and trips during term-time and school holidays, providing that much needed time away from their unfortunate family circumstances. However, due to the current Covid-19 guidelines, CYC had to cease all group gatherings and activities. In light of this increased isolation for families already universally recognised as isolated, CYC's education and welfare workers have been making wellbeing calls and supporting home learning. A grant will go towards salary costs to continue this service. This project will reduce further isolation and stress, mental health and wellbeing will be positively impacted for young carers.

Cheshire Young Carers supports young carers living across Cheshire offering respite activities and trips during term-time and school holidays, providing that desperately needed time away from their unfortunate family circumstances. Building on the positive relationships we have with schools, we will deliver (in schools) workshops led in a teenage friendly way, to cover five key topics: Lifestyle Choices (promoting physical health and understanding emotions), anxiety & worry, stress, anger and teenage issues. Funding will go towards developing materials and delivery of 5 modules/workshops 20 times to between 30 and 40 schools. The expectation is that each school will have between 15-25 pupils to register on the programme. The aim is to enhance the support offered to pupils within the education sector and in particular vulnerable children with low / mid level mental health challenges that are 'common issues'. It will promote positive mental health in young carers and the wider pupil population and in particular following and throughout the isolation and difficulties experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also inform participants in the programme of the additional help and support that is available within the school, within the local area and via national helplines.

However, due to the current Covid-19 guidelines, CYC are having to cease all group gatherings and activities. In light of this increased isolation for families already universally recognised as isolated, CYC have posted an Easter activity pack to 600 families with various themed packs being emailed digitally on a regular basis going forward - this will keep young carers engaged, stay involved and completed activities at home through digital interaction and gain a sense of achievement. Grant funding will be used to pay for postage, materials, and investment in technology. Not only will this project reduce further isolation and stress, mental health and wellbeing will be positively improved as young carers will enjoy completing set fun themed activities they can be proud of and remain an active part of a community with real identity.

Cheshire Young Carers provides respite support for young carers across Cheshire. They have a "class leading" programme supporting schools to identify young cares in their pupil population, an assessment tool to indicate the impact on educational outcomes of the child's caring role and a package on no cost & low cost tactics to better support young carers in education. This project has two key aims, firstly to work with schools in Knutsford to identify young carers in education and then to better support with a result of improved educational outcomes. Secondly to provide respite activities during school holiday when research shows they are most at risk of social isolation due to their caring roles. The grant funding will be used to deploy trained educational officers to work directly with schools and to provide a series of activities for young carers in Knutsford during school holiday periods. The funding will result in helping schools to truly identify their young carer cohort, to better support these children through education, improve educational outcomes and provide activities in school holiday periods reducing isolation, improving the physical and mental being of young carers in Knutsford.

Cheshire Young Carers want to design, implement and support schools in developing two resource packs for use in Cheshire Schools. The packs will be designed to help teachers and teaching support staff to identify pupils who are young carers and how to initiate a conversation to establish their caring role and the impact it has on their school life. Additionally, they will be targeted at helping to support schools to work with parents to understand how to individually support a child and raise awareness of their caring responsibilities, exploring outreach work to benefit educational achievement for the young carer(s) The key outcomes for the packs will be; To provide information on signposting schools to additional support for young carers. To provide advice on simple strategies that can improve attendance, improve homework activity and generally improve attainment levels of young carers in education. Funding will be used for staff time allocated to the design and production of the packs and also the printing of the packs for school distribution across Cheshire. The rest of the funding will be used to directly support schools who feel that they want to train specific staff to support their young carer population.
