CHESTER SEXUAL ABUSE SUPPORT SERVICE

We offer free one-to-one counselling to the survivors who contact us. We aim to develop this service by buying three laptops for two new counsellors and our communication and fundraising officer.

To provide a programme to empower adult survivors of sexual violence through 10 Saturday socials for peer-to-peer support along with a variety of activities. 10 walk and talk groups with a trained counsellor present, allowing those who attend to improve both their physical and mental health. All participants will be invited to a closed Facebook group allowing them to maintain contact and support between sessions (every other week).

Chester Sexual Abuse Support Service (CSASS) will use the funding to continue their current outreach service working with survivors of sexual violence from a wide range of under-represented communities enabling them to progress towards recovery. The aim of the project is to raise awareness of sexual violence and the support available as well as providing free unlimited one-to-one specialist counselling a support line and a range of short and long-term group work activities for survivors.

Chester Sexual Abuse Support Service (CSASS) transforms the lives of adult survivors of sexual violence and abuse, through free specialist counselling, supportline/LiveChat and groupwork – and also campaigns to raise awareness and challenge attitudes leading to sexual violence. This project will improve the mental health of survivors with complex, long-term needs, through provision of prompt, needs-based counselling, and through building skills and capacity across CSASS. Funding will pay for: recruitment, induction and management of experienced counsellors, sessional fees for counselling and team training, clinical supervision, client appointment administration and data management. This project will transform the life and health of our most vulnerable survivors – a difference described best by a client, who felt suicidal before coming to CSASS: ‘(counselling) has saved my life . . . I have gone from waking up thinking of ways to go, to waking up and embracing the day . . . I had virtually dropped out of Uni and out of life . . . I am now well on the road to be the person I was always meant to be, without the chains of past and present trauma holding me down - I feel empowered, enabled and excited for the future.’

This project will support adults across Chester and Cheshire West who have experienced sexual violence. It's primary aim will be to reach those who are not currently accessing support ' in particular people from Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority backgrounds, those with disabilities and those who may not currently recognise their experiences as sexual assault or violence. The project will include one-to-one counselling, peer support groups and a survivor-led awareness raising campaign across Chester.
