The project will seek to improve parenting skills family relationships during sentence and post-release and prison visiting experiences and reduce reoffending rates. The support will also seek to overcome mental health and wellbeing issues experienced by fathers in prison.

The programme will provide intensive therapy, while also offering parents support alongside their children's treatment, allowing for joint family based interventions where appropriate. Therapy will include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, similar to CBT, but designed to help people change patterns of behaviour like suicidal thoughts and substance misuse.

This is the continuation of a Hampshire project delivered by Spurgeons which aims to improve the lives of children and families affected by fathers imprisonment by giving parenting advice and reducing reoffending rates of fathers upon release. The Invisible Walls project has been developed in close partnership with staff at HMP Winchester. Uniquely it offers integrated support to families visiting during custody, including putting them in touch with local specialist services.
