Portsmouth Abuse and Rape Counselling Service (PARCS) aims to improve the lives of people who have experienced domestic and sexual abuse, including sexual harassment, through the provision of a range of integrated services for survivors and their family/friends. This includes trauma informed counselling, advocacy for child survivors, group support and a telephone helpline. The project will use funding to employ two part time counsellors and a part-time group worker, establishing a counselling base in Gosport and Havant. The funding will cover pre-therapy groups, weekly gardening sessions and for individual counselling, as well as general running costs.

We would like to fund a counsellor to provide specialist counselling to survivors of domestic abuse.

We know that survivors of sexual abuse can experience a number of issues including isolation, guilt/shame, anxiety, depression, intimacy and relationship difficulties, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. The sexual abuse experienced can impact on various areas of a survivors life, including work/education, mental health, relationships and economic prosperity. This project sits within the three primary objectives. The expected outcomes are: Build skills and confidence - Increased assertiveness - Increase knowledge of local resources (other groups) - Increased social connections (going out to cafes together and learning how to form friendships) Improve health and well-being - Increased emotional resilience - Increased support and confidence to access essential health appointments Build social networks for women and girls - Increase social interaction - Increase ongoing social support - Reduce isolation
