The funding will be used over 3 years towards delivery of their Neuro Support in a post-Covid World programme. The service supports people with people living with a neurological condition to overcome barriers in order to access exercise. The Neuro Therapy Centre (NTC) based in Saltney Chester serves around 500 people across Cheshire Wirral and North Wales to help manage the symptoms of a wide range of long term neurological conditions including MS Parkinson's MND ME and Fibromyalgia. The centre was founded in 1985 as the MS Support Centre but it became evident the support offered could support people with other neurological conditions. NCT employs 15 staff and are supported by 20 regular volunteers.

Funding under Sport England's Core Market Open Fund funding programme for a Revenue project titled Core Market Open Fund 1. This project is a Sport and Physical Activity project, with a focus on beneficiaries with a disability.

We aim to continue our Telephone Support Service for people with long-term neurological conditions, to tackle loneliness and isolation experienced as a result of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

1. The Neuro Therapy Centre supports people who are vulnerable due to their long term, degenerative neurological condition for whom there is little statutory support in the region. We also support their Carers to care and maintain own physical health and mental wellbeing. 2. By taking into account social distancing and PPE requirements, the project will ensure the re-introduction of safe access to group physiotherapy, fitness & exercise, and Oxygen Therapy for individuals with neurological conditions on site at our premises in Saltney. This support will initially be by invitation only and will target the ongoing needs of those individuals who are most isolated and vulnerable, and who may not have engaged virtually due to physical, financial and/or IT and other barriers, in order to ensure their health and wellbeing needs are being met. 3. Grant funding will be used to contribute towards the cost of social distancing measures, PPE, IT and other operational requirements to ensure safe access to face-to-face services on-site in Saltney, in compliance with Government Guidance, as well as the NTC’s own Reopening Policy and Visitor Guidelines. 4. The focus of our project is the improved inclusion of ‘high’ and ‘moderate’ risk individuals with a long term, degenerative neurological condition, at a time when many are more vulnerable to infection and at risk of exclusion and isolation due to COVID-19, and we believe our preventative philosophy and transformational response to the pandemic closely aligns with the CCF COVID-19 Response Grants programme - Longer Term Emergency Phase focus of supporting organisations to adapt to the crisis. By taking this preventative approach, we want to reintroduce face-to-face exercise opportunities and other support required to enable them to manage their symptoms, limit further physical and mental deterioration due to their condition, and help them recover from the negative effects of the pandemic, whilst also ensuring they are safe and protected. This project will support improved health and wellbeing, and address the needs of the most isolated of our community many of whom will not have been out of their homes since lock-down started. 5. The impact of the pandemic has been significant on our income, which has reduced because of cancelled fundraising events, reduced subsidised contributions from members towards on-site face to face classes which have all ceased, and reduced revenue from our Community Café. Significant support has however been secured from the Steve Morgan Foundation to offset lost income for the period April to September 20, and other funding has been secured for the Emergency Phase 1 of the 'Virtual Centre' so our funding request does NOT include a support for financial stability.

Almost all our service users are in the Government’s high-risk category and are self-isolating for a minimum of 12 weeks, but probably longer if the advice to isolate for people in vulnerable groups does not change until a vaccine or other measures are in place. 2. In response to Covid-19 we have created a ‘Virtual Centre’ to support our members’ needs and keep them safe, fit and supported in their own homes. This new service is vital to our preventative work. Infection by Covid-19 and admission to hospital could be life-threatening to our members, so it is imperative that we support them to stay fit and well during this period of self-isolation. 3. The project involves the use of technology to provide access to virtual exercise classes, group peer support, and one-to-one emotional support and advice, to promote health and wellbeing, and reduce isolation and exclusion, with a particular focus on those who may not use computers or social media, and risk ‘slipping through the net’. 4. We also aim to widen access to this virtual support via existing networks and joint working, in particular through health partners to reduce the strain on primary and secondary healthcare.

The Neuro Therapy Centre will develop a Virtual Centre to respond directly to members’ needs. The service will provide access to support for 156 individuals from North Wales affected by a neurological condition and their carers. It will enable them to continue to access therapies and services but in a different way. The project will help to keep people fit and mentally and physically healthy to help prevent a deterioration in their condition which in turn will help keep them out of hospital. The Neuro Therapy Centre (NTC) supports people with long term neurological conditions, providing therapies, advice and mutual support and helping people develop strategies to deal with their condition, in a safe, secure and welcoming environment. The centre identified a need for a Volunteer and Member Coordinator who will be the first point of contact for existing and possible future volunteers for, and members of, the NTC who will provide ongoing consistent informed support and guidance in order to maximise the positive outcomes for, and impact of, volunteers and members. Funding for this role will enable the organisation to have a dedicated member of staff whose sole focus is to act as the interface between volunteers, members and the organisation, able to build direct communication between parties giving a much more informed and cohesive approach. The grant makes a contribution towards salary costs.
