Funding for the group will go towards the help line which has seen a dramatic increase since covid. The funding will also go towards staff costs as more are needed to deal with demand.

Participants provide each other with peer support and activities such as darts, table football, etc., as well as day trips on narrow boats, for example. Participants make new friends in a safe, informal environment, and are actively engaged in the development of the project through suggestions of activities, social sessions, etc. A steering committee meets quarterly to shape the project and there are regular focus groups held with participants.

THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO ARE:1) THE PRESERVATION OF HEALTH AND THE SAVING OF LIVES, IN PARTICULAR IN THE NORTH WEST OF ENGLAND, BY PROVIDING AND ASSISTING IN THE PROVISION OF GUIDANCE, SUPPORT AND COUNSELLING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE CONSIDERED OR ARE CONSIDERING SUICIDE AND FOR THOSE BEREAVED BY SUICIDE.2) TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC IN RELATION TO THE EARLY SIGNS OF SUICIDAL BEHAVIOUR AND EFFECTIVE INTERVENTIONS BY THE PROVISION OF TRAINING AND EDUCATION, IN PARTICULAR, APPLIED SUICIDE INTERVENTION SKILLS TRAINING (ASIST).
