GATE HERTS

GATE Herts is a Comunity Led Organisation with the aim of improving the quality of life for Gypsy, Roma, Traveller communities. We work in partnership to address the issues which affect our accommodation, health, educations, employment and our circumstances within the UK's society. We develop the capacity and skills of our GRT Individuals.

Objectives

1. TO DEVELOP THE CAPACITY AND SKILLS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED GYPSY, ROMA AND TRAVELLER COMMUNITIES BOTH IN HERTFORDSHIRE AND MORE WIDELY IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEY ARE BETTER ABLE TO IDENTIFY, AND HELP MEET, THEIR NEEDS AND TO PARTICIPATE MORE FULLY IN SOCIETY. 2. TO PROMOTE EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND RACIAL HARMONY FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY FOR EXAMPLE: A) CONDUCTING OR COMMISSIONING RESEARCH IN REGARD TO THE INEQUALITY AND DISCRIMINATION ISSUES EXPERIENCED BY MEMBERS OF THE GYPSY, ROMA AND TRAVELLER COMMUNITIES; B) RAISING UNDERSTANDING AND AWARENESS ABOUT THE INEQUALITY AND DISCRIMINATION EXPERIENCED BY MEMBERS OF THE GYPSY, ROMA AND TRAVELLER COMMUNITIES; AND C) PROMOTING ACTIVITIES TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING. 3. TO PROMOTE SOCIAL INCLUSION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY WORKING WITH PEOPLE IN HERTFORDSHIRE AND MORE WIDELY WHO ARE SOCIALLY EXCLUDED ON THE GROUNDS OF THEIR ETHNICITY, IN PARTICULAR, MEMBERS OF THE GYPSY, ROMA AND TRAVELLER COMMUNITIES, TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF SUCH PEOPLE AND ASSIST THEM TO INTEGRATE INTO SOCIETY BY: A) ADDRESSING THE INEQUALITIES AND DISCRIMINATION FROM WHICH THEY SUFFER; B) PROVIDING A LOCAL NETWORK GROUP THAT ENCOURAGES AND ENABLES MEMBERS OF THE GYPSY, ROMA AND TRAVELLER COMMUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE MORE EFFECTIVELY WITH THE WIDER COMMUNITY; AND C) INCREASING OPPORTUNITIES FOR MEMBERS OF THE GYPSY, ROMA AND TRAVELLER COMMUNITIES TO ENGAGE WITH SERVICE PROVIDERS, IN ORDER THAT PROVIDERS CAN ADAPT SERVICES TO BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF THOSE COMMUNITIES.
