The funding will be used to run a specialist support service for mothers of babies living with disabilities including outreach and home visits a weekly support group advocacy online support and individual counselling. The project aims to improve their mental health and wellbeing build family bonds and peer support networks.

Within MumsAid, we have YoungMumsAid - for mums aged 14 to 21. We would offer these vulnerable mums practical support, such as phone data, so they can stay connected, nappies and baby equipment.

£28,450 has been awarded to Mumsaid for a senior trauma psychotherapist to support women aged 14-21 who are pregnant or have a child under 2, living in the London Borough of Greenwich who have experienced significant trauma.

Grant to Mums-Aid Maternal Mental Health Support meeting the additional costs of adapting services, premises or implementing other safety measures in response to the Covid pandemic.

A grant of £4,713 to fund the essential and urgent costs outlined in the application, so that the organisation can carry on providing support to Londoners.

Grant to fund the creation of a new part-time Business Development Manager post for an initial 9-12 months to lead on increasing and diversifying our income streams, as well as working on traditional grant funding applications and commissioning bids. The grant would contribute to the costs of recruiting the Business Development Manager and then their salary for the first year.

This group based in the Borough of Greenwich project to deliver outreach peer-support to mothers in their own homes who are isolated and currently unable to attend counselling due to agoraphobia, parenting responsibilities, and accessibility issues. volunteers with lived experience to provide opportunities for mothers experiencing postnatal to socialize and access well-being and social get-together groups. Strong partnership links are in place within the voluntary sector and the antenatal field that they can refer and signpost service users to.

We will make a practical difference in the lives of young mothers who have faced disadvantage, and trauma. Research suggests that treating maternal depression and safeguarding against mothers own adverse childhood experiences can also prevent psychopathology being passed on to the next generation (Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2017). CIN have described our YMA project as outstanding and noted the evidence you provide is of a high quality for both quantitative and qualitative reporting. To date our services have proven to be effective in delivering the following outcomes: Improvements in the mental health of disadvantaged young mothers and their ability to cope. Positive impact on the development of their babies achieved through: o psycho-education o improving the quality of bonding and attunement in mother-baby relationships Reduced social isolation and strengthened support networks of young mothers. Improved self-confidence and confidence in parenting The well-being group will further reduce isolation and keep mums engaged with Childrens Centres beyond the course of their therapy. A volunteer therapist will co-facilitate, gaining valuable experience. Two additional volunteers will have involvement through administration and social media support. A recent Social Mobility Commission report concluded interventions that support or aim to tackle stress or improve poor mental health among parents stand out as being particularly effective. Our project will thus deliver a particularly effective intervention with many indirect beneficiaries, including babies, (who will be able to attend sessions with their mothers, or be looked after in a crche) their siblings, and fathers. This project has the potential to inspire services around the country and improve the way young vulnerable mothers are supported (see our article in the International Journal of Birth and Parent Education on our YMA service, April 2017). Once formally evaluated, we hope this project will benefit young mothers across the UK.
