Scotswood Garden is a much loved environmental organisation and Local Wildlife Site based in Newcastle Upon Tyne supporting 3000 disadvanted people a year to engage with and learn about nature. Our neighbourhood is ranked in the highest 10% for multiple deprivation in England.By the end of the project, 2265 adults and children who are least likely to access nature will have improved wellbeing through deeper connection to nature, conservation work experience and knowledge of the natural environment and will have taken action to protect wildlife through regular participation in nature based activities, environmental education workshops, conservation volunteering and training.Priority habitats supporting BAP protected species will be improved. The project will contribute to the Nature Conservation and Restoration and Connecting People with Nature themes, will retain 4.8 FTE jobs, create 2 new Kickstart work placements and 3 new part time posts ( 2.8 FTE) 2 at Scotswood Garden targeting people who are under represented in the environmental sector and 1 at West End Refugee Service (WERS) who will provide support for BAME people seeking asylum to participate. This is a partnership project with WERS supported by the Environmental Records Information Centre NE (ERIC) and an Ecologist.Immediate start.
