Trafford Domestic Abuse Services will use the funding to develop their community group programme True Colours to be more inclusive increase accessibility and reach more diverse survivors of domestic abuse. The project aims to reach out and offer services to more victims of domestic abuse in the area by expanding their range of services.

We'd like to deliver our domestic abuse awareness programme to bring women together in a safe and supportive space. This will reduce isolation, increase confidence and reassure them they're not alone.

We wish women whom have survived or still experiencing domestic abuse and receiving support within refuges and other women agencies to have a fun, gain a sense of togetherness and feel supported in a safe setting, where each woman feels supported by their peers.We know women gain most through being relaxed, in a stress free setting which is different from the norm and fun. We wish to use this setting to offer informal support by other women who have lived experience of the same issues.Our project will deliver four facilitated peer to peer support circles across Greater Manchester.Each peer to peer support circles will provide:6 sessions from a menu of a variety of activities that bring up to 25 women into one space to support each otherSessions are fun and meaningful, provided by an external tutorConcentrated on the social interaction between each otherA moderated WhatsApps group to provide additional support in between sessionsA experienced facilitator and mental health practitionerTraining for 4 women from each circle to be volunteer peer to peer mentors.Some sessions will also be open to children of the women engaged in the project.Women within the session the opportunity to select the predetermined activities or different activities of their choosing.One of the support circles will be delivered in Urdu at aimed at south Asian women who have been subjected to forced marriage or honour based abuse or marriage

We want to deliver our Back to Me personal development programme for people who have suffered domestic abuse, and offer stress management.

1 & 3. Women will report improved confidence and skill building: The programmes are designed to enable women to increase their knowledge and then build the confidence they need to incorporate what they have learnt, into their lives. Women who have attended this course have found it incredibly beneficial in helping them understand the complexities around domestic abuse, identify unhealthy relationships and learn strategies to protect themselves in the future. Back to Me focuses on personal development and the sessions include confidence building, but therapy, including substance misuse, childhood trauma, mental health issues, cultural needs, social care involvement and language barriers. On top of the effects of the domestic abuse they have endured, this can be devastating. The women often report feelings of self blame about what they have been through and True Colours increases their awareness on the real reason behind domestic abuse and takes the blame away form them. Women will report they feel less isolated as a result of attending the programmes. (Build Social networks for women & girls): The programmes bring women together, in a safe and supportive space, who have had similar experiences to reduce feelings of isolation and reassure them they are not alone. Women who have attended the course have reported they feel less lonely, benefited from sharing experiences and have the self belief and confidence to attend other social activities. Women have set up their own regular coffee morning meetings, social media chat groups to keep in touch and introduced other women from the group to other local activities.

The project will support women, men and families who have experienced domestic abuse to feel safe, independent and able to make positive choices through the use of volunteers recruited and supported by a new post of Volunteer Co-ordinator

This grant will fund a Project Coordinator and a Children's worker to support a variety of art therapy, one to one sessions and play sessions for young children who have experienced domestic abuse.
