Home-Start Cheshire supports families with children under 5 who are experiencing difficulties. We aim to increase the number of families we support in the areas in and around Macclesfield, Poynton, Wilmslow, Handforth. The grant funding will pay for Home-Start to run a weekly parenting course in Macclesfield called the CIRCLE programme designed to help parents with low level life skills and will contribute to the salary of a part time coordinator who will run this group and also manage a case load of families who will receive home-visiting support. This project will give parents the skills and confidence to manage their own homes, enable them and their children to live healthier lives and to engage with the resources that are available to them in the community.

Home-Start Cheshire provides practical and emotional support to families who need help to build confidence and resilence and enable children to experience early childhood development opportunities. This project is a seaside trip to offer parents and children from a deprived area the opportunity to experience a trip to New Brighton. The grant funding will be used to pay for a coach, staff time, volunteer expenses, entry to an indoor play area, food and drink and ice creams. As many of our families live in poverty or in low level income households, this project will enable our families, particulalry our children, to enjoy a day out to the coast and have new experiences, including being on a bus trip for the first time with other families, and the day will help to make some special memories and creating unique bonding moments between parents and children.

We work with women and and achieve positive outcomes on all 3 of the above objectives but we have chosen building skills and confidence as the focus for this bid because we are going to focus on women with a very low base of confidence and skills. Through our intense work supporting both in the home and at the CIRCLE group we will achieve the following outcomes for the women; - from a combination of the budgeting training which will be delivered at the group and 1:1 mentoring on a weekly basis at home, the 6 women will all report an improved ability in prioritising their spending. -as a result of mentoring on how to complete paperwork /make phonecalls etc all 6 women will have increased confidence and self esteem to make phonecalls/ complete forms/ job applications / manage household bills. -after attending basic cooking workshops and practicing at home with Mentor, all 6 women will have increased ability to prepare healthy family meals from scratch. - by attending the group weekly, engaging in activities with other mums and over time supporting new mums at the group, all 6 women will gain increased confidence. - by attending Reading with Children sessions with Bookstart at the CIRCLE group, and then modelling at home with the Mentor, all 6 women will gain increased confidence to support their children's learning. - by attending sessions on relaxation & craft activities all 6 women will gain a range of strategies to cope with stresses / conflict in family life. -by joining in with group activities and regular outings all 6 women will gain increased confidence to meet new people and go to new places.
