We expect to engage 50 women, during pregnancy or with young babies, in the peer support group over the course of the project. We expect that around 8 types of health and support professionals will have been able to access these women through attending group sessions to share information about their services. Our outcomes will be: 50 women will report that they feel less isolated and have been able to connect and share experiences with other mothers and mother-to-be. 50 women will report that they feel more confident about being or becoming a mother, and how to keep themselves and their baby well. 50 women will have a greater understanding of the pre- and post-natal support services available to them in the UK and feel confident about accessing them. 50 women will have better understanding of the signs and symptoms of post-natal-depression, and know how to access help if they need it. In order to access a much larger number of women we will create an information resource (in the form of a short video or translated information leaflet) about accessing pre- and peri-natal support in the UK. This will be distributed through our centres and those of our partners, and be made available for use by the appropriate health services in the region. The women attending the group will be involved in designing and creating this resource. We hope this will insure that it is engaging and appropriate for other migrant women, and that it incorporates the messages that the women believe will be most valuable.
