This refurbishment project is to replace bedroom and communal space windows at YMCA Basingstoke, which provides accommodation and support to 83 young people at risk of homelessness. YMCA engages tenants in structured evidence-based programmes which improve their wellbeing and independent living skills. 60% are 25 or under and the grant is for this element of the costs, YMCA will fund the balance from operating surplus. We purchased the property in 2019 from its former landlord who did not replace original windows once deteriorated, despite identification in condition surveys. We wish to complete this work. The current windows cause condensation and mould in bedrooms. Many are drafty, creating high electricity costs to tenants who live on very low incomes and often in poor health. We wish to install modern, efficient, replacement windows. This will improve young people’s financial situation, and significantly increase the comfort and appearance of their homes.
