LEVENSHULME GOOD NEIGHBOURS SUPPORTS OLDER PEOPLE LIVING IN THE LEVENSHULME AREA OF MANCHESTER. OUR WORK INVOLVES RECRUITING VOLUNTEER BEFRIENDERS FROM THE AREA WHO HELP PEOPLE IN A WIDE RANGE OF SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND PRACTICAL WAYS. WE ALSO OFFER ACTIVITIES, SOCIAL EVENTS, DAYS OUT AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES TO OLDER PEOPLE, SO THEY CAN MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR TIME IN WAYS THAT ARE MEANINGFUL.

It will enable the charity to support those who are isolated ....more The funding will support Levenshulme Good Neighbours to provide practical and emotional support to older people living in Levenshulme. It will enable the charity to support those who are isolated housebound and aged sixty-five plus by offering a range of activities and choices to foster comfortable and independent lives. With the help of 20+ volunteers LGN is currently supporting 150 older people. LGN supports older people by delivering a neighbourhood befriending service which is available in four strands: one-to-one befriending at a person’s house within communal sheltered housing over the telephone and through digital screen share-based services. Activities are supported by over twenty volunteers and include:- Welfare checks- Sharing meals- Shopping- Sharing stories playing games and listening to music- Helping with applications such as PIP (Personal Independence Payments)- Gardening- Alerting for mental health conditions- Dog walking - Attending events- Attending GP appointments or pick up and drop offs from the hospital
