There are over 5.4million carers in England (10% of the population). 3 in 5 of us will become a carer at some point in our lives. Research shows that nearly 8 out of 10 carers suffer with loneliness and isolation, with half reporting feelings of depression. 48% report they are struggling to make ends meet as a result of their caring role. The Care Act, introduced in April 2015 in England, requires local authorities to provide a level of support. The project supports carers across England to constructively meet with local authorities in order to influence how services are designed to best meet their needs and thus improve their wellbeing.

Courses & workshops will be offered to teach carers about medications, supporting the person they are caring for & recognising health problems. A befriending scheme will be set up. Peer support groups where older carers can get together to share views, feelings will be set up. Information points will be set up in Boots stores and Information days held in community centres/GP surgeries.
