We propose to set up a peer support group for women who have completed therapy. The group will be facilitated by a counsellor and a leader from the group, and will focus on a new topic every week, encouraging women to share knowledge, partake in active learning and reflect on their journey of recovery through creative activity. The group will aim to empower women with lived experience of sexual violence to improve their connection to others, including making positive relationships, reducing social isolation and improving wellbeing. Each peer group for this project will include 6-10 women. They will meet for weekly sessions for 8 weeks initially, with the possibility to continue after the 8 weeks through peer facilitation. We envisage holding 4 groups over the course of the funding year. Each group will be co-facilitated by a counsellor to ensure the safety of all the women involved as they delve into personal and intimate conversations which can be challenging. Women will be encouraged to take an active role in developing the peer group, leading on sessions and work towards becoming self-sustaining groups on completion of 8 sessions. There will also be the opportunity to lead on successive groups- groups 2, 3, and 4.All women who are interested in taking part in the peer groups will have an individual assessment with a counsellor to assess their suitability, and where it is not the best option for them, they will be signposted to other services.
