CHILDREN CHANGE COLOMBIA

Children Change Colombia was established in 1991. We are the largest UK charity working exclusively in Colombia. We work on neglected issues facing children and young people in Colombia that pose a serious threat to children's rights and wellbeing. In particular: Recruitment into armed groups and reintegration into society; Sexual and gender based violence; and Exclusion from education.

The context of violence in families means many girls flee abusive homes. Once they are on the streets, they are vulnerable to gangs, are used to carry drugs, carry out robberies and in sex work. It is hard to leave gangs so girls either end up in extreme danger or prison. The project will work with 308 girls in residential care and their families to address to explore the reasons for their behaviours, to develop life plan, and receive tailored support to achieve their goals. The project will also work in communities to stop girls joining gangs, build their confidence and aspirations and result in safer communities.
