This project will enhance the lives of children and adults with learning disabilities through the use of multi-sensory books, designed to engage and stimulate the key senses of sight, sound, touch and smell. This funding will help bring together special schools, disabled children, their families and carers and over 100 libraries across England to encourage multi-sensory storytelling and to create a lending scheme of multi-sensory books.

This new project provides access to multi-sensory books and offers multi-sensory storytelling within day centres and care homes for adults with severe or profound learning disabilities throughout England, aiming to improve quality of life, motor and communication skills. Adults with severe, profound and multiple learning disabilities respond better to multi-sensory books than traditional books, drawing them into a story through a series of objects to touch, smell, make a noise or require an action.
