This project will support young people aged 11-16 and their non-abusive parent or carer affected by domestic violence, to explore their own experiences of domestic abuse and violence, and to examine positive ways of dealing with their feelings via a programme of therapeutic workshops. This will support 10 young people attending a 10-week rolling programme to address their emotional, cognitive, behavioural, social and physical wellbeing with three groups run per year.

Funding is requested for their early intervention work; funding restrictions and policy, both locally and nationally, mean that services for high risk clients are a priority, especially with statutory related sources. However, Insight know that early work either with victims or perpetrators, focusing on education, coping strategies and understanding “triggers” can prevent a crisis later. £9,000 is requested and the grant will pay for around 10 sessions of free therapy for each client, their initial assessment and supervision costs, In total 20 clients are expected to benefit from this, which is £450 per capita but reflects the specialist support provided.

This is a continuation of a Domestic Abuse Counselling Service project in Warwickshire, which improves the lives of victims of domestic abuse by providing access to free counselling and advice. It reduces risk of repeat victimization by providing prevention and therapeutic intervention. The project breaks the cycle of abuse promoting safe parenting. It offers free therapeutic intervention to increase the ability of victims to self-evaluate personal risk, develop confidence and self-esteem.
