THE PANATHLON FOUNDATION LIMITED

Overview

The Panathlon Foundation provides sporting opportunities for disabled and special educational needs young people across primary and secondary schools in the UK. The pandemic allowed them to grow their offering and they now provide a hybrid programme of in person and virtual at-home challenges, enabling children to keep active and healthy.

Participation numbers have continued to grow each year and the events participants compete in have not only expanded multi-sport event opportunities across the country but given schools reason to consider additional sports provisions for the disabled.

Notes: Since 2021 participant numbers have included those taking part virtually

Commentary: Recent research studies have highlighted that the physical activity of programme competitors is having a significantly positive effect on academic attainment. It also showed that non-competitors who are peers of those on programmes are more well informed to the needs of disabled children post-programme completion
