The funding will be used to deliver revitalising social and health activities for 80 BME older people aged 65+ to help them re-engage in society post-pandemic. The project aims to support beneficiaries in re-engaging with society re-building social networks to address loneliness re-building mental and physical health so they can live healthier and happier lives post-pandemic.

This is partnership Programme between City Bridge Trust, the National Lottery Community Fund and the GLA. A Place at my Table work in partnership with communities through creative and vibrant community engagement events to develop strong networks of support for people who face significant disadvantaged, such as poverty, physical and mental health difficulties and other inequalities. The funding will allow them to develop Where Rivers Meet Network (WRMN) of Sutton BME groups. WRMN will act as a collective voice, providing advocacy and developmental support, increasing capacity amongst BME organisations and linking groups to mainstream providers, facilitate cross-cultural exchange and develop community-led solutions to address the needs of BME groups and mainstream services who will benefit from improved understanding of the needs of BME communities.

This two-year project is for older people aged 55 and over living in Thornton Heath, Croydon, London. It aims to address the increasing isolation caused by the Covid pandemic and help participants regain a sense of belonging and make friends. It runs two group sessions a week for older people to come together to participate in activities such as crafts, board games and exercise classes. It also provides monthly lunch clubs.

The funding will be used to recruit train and supervise volunteers to support BAME older people aged over 70 years to help them reengage with the community as lockdown eases. They will continue to provide one to one support a telephone service with practical and emotional support a shopping and home delivery service and signposting to essential services. The aim is to support older people during the current coronavirus pandemic to help reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.
