THE ARMITAGE FOUNDATION

The Armitage Foundation aims to increase the number of UK medical students from underrepresented backgrounds, thereby increasing diversity and creating an NHS that reflects the society it serves.We run after-school programmes delivered by current medical student starting in year 8 through to 6th form, because we believe a long-term continuous intervention is most likely to effect change.

Data from 2015 shows that more than 50% of UK schools do not produce a single medical applicant. This grant application is mainly for a part-time staff member for the Foundation. This will free up the co-founders to focus on taking the next steps to secure the Foundation's future - including developing new courses and mentoring for students in Y11 and Y13; recruiting and training additional volunteers to run sessions; thinking about the best business model; and developing strategic partnerships to maximise impact.
