This grant follows on from a pilot programme expansion to the West Midlands and supports the development of a permanent Midlands Hub which will respond to high demand and result in a larger number of young people supported into training and employment.

The aim of this project is to support In2scienceUK’s key activities that empower disadvantaged young people to pursue a STEM career by supporting alumni from our programme transition from sixth form into university through mentoring.

In2scienceUK Virtual Programme

This project will support the modified In2scienceUK programme to be delivered through a dynamic digital platform which is managed by home based In2scienceUK staff members.

A grant of £25,250 to fund the essential and urgent costs outlined in the appliciation, so that the organisation can carry on providing support to Londoners.

This grant will support the programme’s expansion across the South East, South West and North West.

In2scienceUK leverages the expertise of scientists to give pupils from low socio-economic backgrounds paid internships in research labs, mentoring and advice to inspire and support them to progress onto Higher education.

Award-winning in2scienceUK is a London-based charity that unlocks the potential of young people on free school meals with no family history of attending university, by enabling them to progress to careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). in2scienceUK provides inspiring local STEM placements/role models, workshops on work-readiness and employability skills, and high-quality career and university access advice and guidance. Following successful pilots outside London, in2scienceUK will use backing from The Fore to kick-start the charity's expansion into social mobility 'cold-spots' across the UK, building lasting partnerships and funding relationships in new regions.

In2Science UK matches scientists, engineers, and technology and maths (STEM) professionals in top-ranking UK universities with young people from the poorest backgrounds with an interest in STEM, by providing those young people with two week long laboratory placements and supplementary workshops. This provides young people with meaningful exposure to STEM fields they are interested in but might not have been able to access, increasing their science capital and providing a pathway to further education and employment in STEM fields. The fund enables them to to expand the programme across the UK - from two regions (London and the South East) to five regions (East of England, the South West, and the North West).
