Leeds Safeguarding Children Board has found the number of young people at risk of sexual exploitation is increasing. In 2014 there were 153 cases compared to 47 in 2011. Many incidences are never reported, particularly involving young Asian women. Hamara Healthy Living Centre has an excellent track record in supporting the South Asian community in Leeds and with this grant it will employ workers to support Asian young people who are at risk of exploitation. Young people will receive one-to-one and group work support so that they have a better understanding of grooming and exploitation, develop skills to avoid risky situations and build resistance to move away from harmful relationships.
