‘Cost of Living uplift: £500 to help projects meet their rising costs and respond to increased demand 31/10/2022’

The funding will be used to hire a family coordinator to help design, organise and deliver a wide range of activities and services to help meet the needs of local disadvantaged families in County Durham.

The play rangers programme will deliver varied outdoor activities for children and young people living in Wingate, an isolated part of Durham, supporting them to develop positive relationships, life skills and be happy.

To support a family cafe for parents to prepare healthy food for themselves and their children.

Local mothers living in Wingate, Station Town, Haswell and Shotton will have improved opportunities to engage in positive activities to improve their health and well-being. 40 mothers will have improved skills and access to employment. Engagement in our women focused activities will recognise and respect existing strengths and built upon skills to encourage progression towards formal learning and qualifications to improve self-esteem and support employability. Mothers will learn together in an informal environment without pressure to succeed. Resources will be introduced to encourage them to collate their learning so that they can demonstrate their progress and learn how to present evidence of learning for the future. Information and guidance will be provided to encourage progression to level 2 and 3 courses to improve opportunities and employabililty. 30 mothers will have improved diet by taking part in cooking activities. We will improve mothers' knowledge and skills to enable them to identify, source and cook healthy meals from scratch to improve their diet. They will share their skills with their children to help improve mother/child interactions and create happy memories for future reflection. 40 mothers will benefit from improved social networks where they can share their concerns, support each other to deal with day-to-day concerns and access professional support, when required, through partnership working within the Family Centre. Our friendly, homely environment will help mothers to relax and engage in conversation. Time out from the pressure of raising a family on low income will help women to have a positive experience of motherhood and enjoy raising their children. The Family Support Lead worker will use her skills and experience to foster positive relationships between mothers and provide information and guidance to those who need additional support or professional advice.
