The added capacity will ease winter and COVID-19 pressures on local health systems providing step-up and step-down facilities and crisis management to keep people out of hospitals.Providers will need to upload their hospice beds and community capacity onto the National Capacity Tracker daily, including at weekends and bank holidays, with non-compliance affecting funding.A secondary benefit is that 17 hospices that are at imminent risk of closure this financial year and a further 45 hospices that could fail in the next year will be supported through the winter months avoiding additional pressures of support required by their patients on the NHS.
