The Welcome would normally provide community/ welfare initiatives and subsidised meals at our centre: We are now closed to the public and operating crisis support through online and telephone advice and counselling, plus emergency food delivery services to maintain health and wellbeing of vulnerable people. We are using the cafe to provide a free/ subsidised cooked meal delivery service to local households and this funding will enable us to reach 150 households each week with cooked meals and emergency food bank parcels. The grant funding will primarily be used for the chef's salary which previously was covered through cafe income. This service is essential as many of our older and vulnerable residents relied on our home-cooked meals prior to the Covid-19 crisis. The greatest impact of this service is more than just food provision: it is keeping in contact with our most vulnerable residents, ensuring they remain well, and picking up on serious issues such as domestic abuse, risk of self-harm, or other welfare issues that we may not hear of through phone contact.

The Welcome is a thriving community hub and café based in the heart of the Longridge and Shaw Heath estates and we provide a one-stop-shop for essential housing related advice and support services to local residents. The funding is for continuation of our Support Worker's salary - the first point of contact for anyone in crisis or requiring specific advice and guidance: She (Sarah Pownall) listens, identifies the need and through her own personal lived experience, guides them to access relevant support services. The purpose of this funding is to safeguard the Support Worker role, enabling us to continue delivering excellent (sometimes critical) support to approximately 300 people each year in this neighbourhood. Without the Support Worker role we would be unable to signpost/help our users access key services which could include accessing welfare support, food bank, emergency fuel, mental health support or reducing isolation and all have the potential to significantly improve their personal situations.
