Since 2009 ISC Links has been a grassroots youthwork project engaging young Somalis in north London. Links engages hard to reach young people including those at risk of radicalisation or involved in gang activities. ISC re-connects them with education and has helped hundreds of young people move forward positively with their lives.
Participants drive every aspect of Links design and management and trained young mentors are an important way to attract their peers into the project and maintain their commitment.
Through ISC Links many young Somalis have made the successful transition into adult education and sustainable employment including in retail, security and construction. Our approach includes sports, skills based activities and addressing other issues the young people face.
Thanks to a Community Outreach grant in 2022-2023 ISC Links engaged hundreds of young people with information about adult education opportunities and succeeded in helping many of them to enrol onto courses.

This existing one-year project built on work funded by the Trust. This enabled the project to extend the befriending and social activities offered to older Somali people by focussing the project on those older people with mental health issues in all areas of Islington. ISC Connect worked with isolated older Somali Islington residents connecting them with the wider community through a range of social activities. It provided volunteer advocates training for local people to help provide the befriending and social sessions.
