The funding will support the organisation's Family Advice Service which supports parents/carers with a disabled child/children. The project works across Dartford Sevenoaks and Gravesham areas of Kent. This year Beams are celebrating 25 years as a charity offering care to disabled children and families and over the years the organisation and activities have evolved through listening to the views and ideas of their member families. Beams have over 25 years of experience in providing support to families of children with complex needs. 50% of its board have lived experience and staff are well placed and qualified to deliver this complex support.

These will take place in local leisure centres and give parents and carers two or three full days respite from their care responsibilities. Activities will include ball games, swimming, gymnastics and bouncy castles. These will run alongside activities for non-disabled children so they can play together, understand one another and improve their social and physical skills.

The aim of this expanding project is to ensure disabled children and their families are not socially isolated and are equipped with the skills to make the best decisions for their child. The expansion will incorporate a home visit to support parents of recently diagnosed children and offer practical and emotional support. The current service includes a helpline, parent support groups, parenting programmes for challenging behaviour and a drop-in centre advising on issues including education and finances.
