Effective charities and their impact

The best charities can be more than 100 times more effective than others so it pays to be selective. Giving is Great can help you find them.

In all walks of life the best run organisations achieve more than those that are just average but the differences are often quite modest. Why? Because the commercial marketplace is brutal – inefficient firms are eliminated. But in the charitable world this Darwinist survival of the fittest principle does not apply. Most charities are not judged on their effectiveness, so a slick fundraising team in a poor organisation can still rake in donations.

As a result, there are tens of thousands of well meaning but relatively ineffective charities. If you donate to them your money is going to achieve perhaps 100 times less than if you select more carefully. Check out this blog to read more.
