22/10/2021 £2,021 TOVE VALLEY FC As a club our aim is provide sporting opportunities for all players who are interested in playing football in the South Northamptonshire area, a team where there is a lack of teams compared to the demand and interest, made more extreme with the rapid expansion of Towcester. Having established as a club, the focus of the club is to provide high level training and coaching to all those interested to create a positive environment where all players can improve personally and as a member of the team each week. This philosophy is encouraged both from a footballing aspect and as an individual, and has helped create a strong community within the club and local area to show the positive impact football can create, improving young males mental health within the club. The success of the club has enables us to have the interest and employ the coaches to set up a development side to focus on younger players ages 16-20 in their transition into open aged football in a mixed squad, vital in a town with a large juniors set up with no adult side, and helping them develop life skills and become part of a footballing community. The ambition is to set this new Development side up successfully with a team entered into the local league system that can be sustained by the club. The development set up has also enabled the club to partner up with the charity The Centre for Sharing De-Brutilisation who work with young solo asylum seekers who have recently moved to the UK who use sport as part of their programme to support there young adults. We have signed players with the club from the charity and aligned our focusses with their 5 deliveries in educating and supporting young adults, helping them to become familiar with UK culture in a friendly and positive environment, and developing their life skills. We also offer volunteering opportunities within the club to any and all, as well as welcoming volunteers who are not members, to benefit from their help and improving their employability skills.

25/08/2021 £2,000 AFRICAN YOUTH ARISE (AYA) African Youth Arise (AYA) is a community organisation that predominately works with young people between the ages group of 11 to 25 based in East Midlands whom are of African descendant, based in the U.K. Our mission is the pursuit of excellence for young people, with an emphasis on instilling values such as respect, discipline and work ethics so they can see themselves as valuable contributors to their community and wider society. AYA are fully aware that BAMEs are disproportionality in the Criminal Justice System in England and Wales and many articles and statistical data are available on the subject. Therefore our projects look to address this by facilitating development of personal, social and civic responsibilities through dynamic activities specifically for BMEs. Our projects include setting up sessions that cover confidence building, self-belief, identity, seeking help & support. This is to equip BME youth with tools to ensure they are not lured into criminal activities and other anti-social behaviour trends. These sessions are then reinforced by holding sessions on employment & educational opportunities, CV writing, job search and entrepreneurship. The aim is to improve the self-confidence, self-esteem and employability skills of BME youths by supporting them to access employment and training opportunities. One of the platforms we use is to align sport sessions and competitions to reach, ‘hard to reach’ young BMEs via football, boxing and other team sports to encourage these young people to attend. We then build rapport and offer services such as life skills, which include self-help to improve their financial situation. With BME youth being impacted sufficiently by the Covid-19 pandemic and now potentially the start of relaxing restrictions. We at AYA want to hold an ‘get active’ project with includes swimming sessions, to allow BME access to learn to swim as a confidence builder and also to improve their mental wellbeing by interacting with others, exercising the body and seeing tangible results through learning to swim as a positive booster.

24/08/2021 £2,021 EARLS BARTON FOOTBALL CLUB It is well known that participation in sport improves both physical and mental wellness and team sport particularly encourages a sense of belonging and being a part of something positive. Being a volunteer for the club has been a huge benefit to many people, helping them to make real friendships and provide support and encouragement, contributing to a stronger community. Many young people have gone on to make their careers out of sport including a golf professional, football professionals, physiotherapists and sports scientists. Others have continued to play football whilst learning other employment and life skills. The discipline required to turn up to training sessions and matches and perform and learn the game help children and adults deal with the ups and downs of everyday life, reducing the desire to commit crime or anti-social behaviour, and generally feel better about themselves. Case study “player” had severe anxiety problems in his youth but found the experience of being part of a team hugely beneficial and has gone on to university in the USA and is now a professional golfer. He and his family remain very good friends of the club. Case study “volunteer” has been part of the club for many years along with his late wife who was club secretary. Remaining part of the club through his loss helped him feel valued and wanted. He is now in charge of the ground’s maintenance.

We have a number of teenagers who are members of our club who may otherwise have been tempted with alternatives such as joining a gang or getting involved with drugs. We feel that the club offers them the security to feel a part of a group where you will make life long friends giving them a sense of belonging which is so important and incentivises them to move away from the alternatives. Many of our members family attend the matches and we encourage the team spirit shown here to set an example to other members, teams and the wider community.

People often join the football club and then learn of our youth group opening them up to the wider range of support services we offer. The communities built are strong because they are open and welcoming. Unlike other activities football is able to bring people from different home countries, ethnicities or mother tongues together. there is no need for English fluency or a sound cultural understanding when people play sport. this shows during the club and the youth members benefit from that welcoming, comfortable environment.

28/06/2021 £2,021 £80,820 KINGS CLIFFE & AREA COMMUNITY SPORTS PROJECT LTD Building stronger communities. Kings Cliffe Active is a wholly volunteer run charity, with all the Trustees and our other volunteers from Kings Cliffe and surrounding villages. Whilst we have benefitted from the support of professional officers from local Councils and other organisations over time we are a fantastic example of a community helping itself to develop its community. Through the applications for funds, the organsiation and operation and management of the charity, or the establishment of new activities and the running of these - all have been based on a need identified within the community. We are part of the community and work closely with other groups - way beyond just providing space for their activities. For example we led a project a few years ago "Celebrating Kings Cliffe Community" which consisted of all the groups in the village coming together to promote over the one summer all the different activities that were available to local residents under a single banner, cross promoting activities to make more people more aware, attending each others events as appropriate in support. We have developed new facilities and new activities on the site based on interest from within the community which is tested first by some consultation - for example a Netball Club was formed and we helped them play on the car park with temporary markings and moveable goals until such time as we had secured the funds to build the two Netball Courts (with Tennis Courts). The fact that they had formed was a significant benefit for our funding application; it also meant that it diversified the makeup of participants on the site which was largely male due to the Football. Likewise the establishment of a Gym has come after many years of planning, consultation, constantly checking back with local residents and working towards the best outcome when we were regularly pushed towards an Outdoor Gym. And likewise work with our local residents is driving the exploration of new projects - eg a Community Garden. If we could secure a teacher we know of a lot of interest in Dance. Whilst Sport is at the core of everything we do it is a wider definition that we tend to use - "and physical activity", "active", "recreation", and increasingly "health and wellbeing". We take immense pride in the fact that what was once a farmers field is a great facility for the community and one which continues to be developed for our developing community, providing so many different opportunities for everyone to come together - especially at big events like the annual CliffeFest, but also the more recent and much smaller Gardeners Club and Church Plant Fair.

We provide a range of volunteer-led coaching opportunities for every one of our members and have a thriving clubhouse, which provides a social hub for local families. The activities we provide are all about improving physical and mental health through outdoor exercise, developing individual confidence in young people and teaching the essence of teamwork. 21/05/2021 £1,820 SPORT4FITNESS CIC Sport4Fitness has been offering sporting and other activities primarily to children and young persons with a disability and/or a special need since 2015. We have our own sports ground, sports pavilion, artificial grass putting green and now a sensory garden. We encourage all of our visitors to have a go and work to the ethos that 'everyone can achieve'. As well as providing our own activities run by our own staff and volunteers we work together with other groups allowing them to deliver their particular activities utilising our space, building and equipment. We organise activities for children and young persons with a disability an/or a special need but also try to provide activities for family and siblings as well as for carers and we organise events for young carers to attend to have some respite from the caring activities. We aim that with our and others provision of activities we will help individuals to develop life skills and encourage our visitors to try things that they may have previously been unable to participate in. By working with whole families as well as the children most in need alone we attempt to build community spirit and encourage families or individuals to come together to share activities and experiences. Particularly with us all having to cope with Covid we see our provision of sport and other activities as being very important and helpful in trying to deal with mental health issues. Giving our visitors the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities, with others, in Covid safe and preventative conditions helps to deal with some of the issues that some visitors may have especially as a result of being locked down and virtually isolated during the course of the pandemic. Although we cannot directly claim that we develop employability skills we do seek to promote self confidence with our visitors, we try to extend their capabilities beyond sometimes what they thought they were capable of and indirectly by boosting confidence and well being we aim that participation in our activities will assist if and when they are in a position to seek employment. Again whilst we don't have predetermined plan or aim to reduce crime or anti-social behaviour by welcoming our visitors, encouraging them to develop new skills and activities and by working with them as small teams or groups as well as individually we try to teach the values of good behaviour, living within social agreed rules (i.e. non criminal activities) and working, participating in events and activities with others we can encourage positive social behaviour.

19/05/2021 £2,021 £78,319 PEAK EMPOWER We run a series of inclusive sports sessions in a variety of sports. Just last weekend we started adding in some family sessions for those who are having to still self isolate due to pre-exisiting conditions. A boy and his mother approached us, the boy has a lung problem and so is still having to isolate and was feeling depressed and down as well as putting on weight for the first time. After some anxiety he was able to have fun and feel like a normal person again. His mother was in tears she was so happy and his confidence levels were so high he now wants to try lots of different outside sports. We dont just use sports as a way to help build confidence but also as a way for families to work together and communicate better by running family sessions, this especially helps to get families working together to be healthier and also offers an opportunity for families who may have a child with an additional need to all participate in a sport activity together as we ensure the activities are completely inclusive.
