This two-year project delivers a monthly activity group for children and young people and their families who have diagnosed or suspected additional needs and disabilities, including ADHD, autism and foetal alcohol syndrome, that can affect their social and emotional behaviour. Families and children from across Gwent get together for regular sessions and activities such as a park meet-up, bowling, board games, arts and crafts, play and lego and once a term a structured course of about 6 weeks will offer an accessible activity to smaller groups of children, for example bushcraft, white water rafting, skiing, climbing and boot camp etc. The project provides a safe environment free of judgement, where parents are able to meet and support others facing similar issues, and children can interact with their peers and increase their self-esteem and confidence. Activities are shaped by ideas and input from the children who identified the need for active sessions following the pandemic lockdowns.
