Ignite aims to help young people overcome adversity. We run three main services which work holistically to reduce disadvantage while raising aspirations and providing life-changing opportunities. We run a counselling service for young people. Mental-health support is vital and, too often, disadvantaged young people slip through the net. We also run a food delivery service which, since April 2020, has provided over 80,000 meals to families in food poverty. Food poverty can act as a barrier to fulfilling other aspects of life such as employment, mental health and relationships. Finally, we run a bespoke mentoring service for young people when school environments are not meeting their needs. Mentoring provides young people, who are at risk of exclusion, have been excluded or are at-risk of anti-social behaviour, with life changing opportunities which raise aspirations and help to reach potential. Our mentoring provides access to exercise and a fully functioning CrossFit gym, additionally, some of our mentors are qualified personal trainers, boxers and football players who are able to build healthy relationships with vulnerable young people. Mentoring provides all rounded support that helps develop life skills while supporting with mental health challenges and reducing risk factors which, in turn, build stronger and more resilient communities. All of our services work collaboratively towards reaching all of the provided outcomes and Ignite believes that holistic support is vital for young people to thrive. We use sport for the majority of our young people as a way of fostering healthy relationships while encouraging healthy life styles. We are able to provide at-risk and disadvantaged young people with sports and nutrition provisions or work experiences and access to resources that will help them get to where they'd need to be. There is huge amount of inequality among the provisions that young people receive based on their backgrounds, family networks and where they were born; these unavoidable starting points in life should never be a barrier to achieving your full potential. Evidence shows that socioeconomically disadvantaged young people are less likely to engage in physical activity, however, sport can contribute to tackling social exclusion. In addition, disadvantaged young people may never access experiences that could lead to better futures, we want to bridge this gap by providing bespoke mentoring which provides access to a range of sports training opportunities, qualifications and nutrition courses.
