We aim to run two projects that target two distinctive audiences within the BAME community of St Albans: 1. Family Social Event This project is aimed at couples and families and will take place on a monthly basis. It is a family get together where different families can enjoy a meal together in a relaxed environment where they can socialise with each other. This encourages social interaction and community cohesion within the BAME community. Furthermore, we will be inviting community leaders to talk about their services and inform the community about the latest updates with the Covid-19 vaccine and encourage uptake within the BAME community. This will certainly include GP's and Doctors within the BAME community that will attend and speak at the monthly event. Members of the BAME community may feel more inclined to take the vaccine when they are being informed by a health professional from the BAME community that they can relate to. Food will be provided to encourage families to attend. We will also provide support in booking appointments and transportation advice. Al Furqan has strong community links within the BAME community, we expect around 50 people to attend each session, and we expect different people to attend subsequent sessions, enabling us to capture a diverse audience. We will also deliver the communication about the vaccine is different languages that are appropriate for our audiences and cover issues such as 'is the vaccine halal?' 2. Youth Club This project is aimed at youth of a BAME background. The youth club will involve sports, video games and team building activities. Food will be provided to encourage attendance. Research has shown that vaccine confidence amongst young people is lower than average. This may be due to misinformation surrounding the vaccine. We will invite young community leaders who the youth can relate to, to speak about the vaccine and encourage uptake. They will also talk about their personal experiences with COVID-19 and their experience when taking vaccine. Furthermore, we will invite GP's and doctors from the BAME community that will also encourage vaccine uptake. We expect around 30 people per session nd we expect different people to attend subsequent sessions, enabling us to capture a diverse audience. The youth club will run on a weekly basis starting in September.
