    Objectives

    THE PRESERVATION AND PROTECTION OF GOOD PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF GAY AND BISEXUAL MEN IN NEED BY REASON OF BEING HIV POSITIVE IN PARTICULAR BY ANY OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING MEANS:(I) THE PROVISION OF COUNSELLING AND SUPPORT;(II) THE PROVISION OF FREE INFORMATION AND EXPLANATION ON HOW BETTER TO COPE WITH THE PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL IMPACT OF HAVING HIV, THE TREATMENTS AVAILABLE AND THE SERVICES THAT CAN BE OBTAINED VIA THE NHS OR OTHER ORGANISATIONS FOR MEN SUFFERING FROM HIV;(III) PROVIDING PEER SUPPORT FROM A DIVERSE RANGE OF PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS AT ALL STAGES FROM THE RECENTLY DIAGNOSED HIV SUFFERER TO THOSE AT THE ADVANCED STAGES OF HIV AND NEARING THE END OF THEIR LIFE;(IV) PROVIDING GUEST SPEAKERS FROM NHS ORGANISATIONS AND WELFARE RIGHTS ORGANISATIONS WHO CAN PROVIDE EXPERT ADVICE ON MEDICAL AND WELFARE ISSUES RELEVANT TO HIV SUFFERERS;(V) FACILITATING AND ENCOURAGING FREE DISCUSSION AMONGST PEER GROUPS ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES BEING HIV POSITIVE IN A NON-JUDGMENTAL AND CONFIDENTIAL SETTING ENABLING PEOPLE TO SHARE THEIR CONCERNS AND ANXIETIES, TO DEVELOP COPING STRATEGIES AND BUILD CONFIDENCE IN ORDER TO COPE MORE EFFECTIVELY WITH THEIR CONDITION;(VI) ENCOURAGING THEM TO FORM FRIENDSHIPS WITHIN THE GROUP AND TO CREATE A SUPPORT NETWORK TO RELIEVE THE SENSE OF ISOLATION AND LONELINESS.
