Age UK has ....more Age UK will use the funding to continue their Get Up and Go (GUGO) programme supporting them in delivering mental health support in non-clinical settings to the over 50s in Tameside. Age UK has provided services for older people across Tameside for more than 40 years. They provide a range of services such as a falls programme cognitive stimulation therapy campaigns around issues such as staying warm at Winter and home support around nutrition and hydration. There is also a programme of social and fitness activities. AUT’s GUGO programme represents around 7% of their service offer and focuses on delivering mental health support service in non-clinical settings using community venues such as the Grafton Centre Dukinfield Diversity Matters and clients’ own homes. They work with anxiety depression and other common mental health issues using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) tools and techniques and everyday language. This free service is for people aged 50 and over in Tameside who are experiencing lower-level mental health issues supporting them to identify what they are experiencing and how best they can solve their issues manage their feelings and build their resilience. For the years 2020 and 2021 the service delivered a Covid Crisis Service which during 2020 was able to support 1525 older people through:One to One counselling - 83 older people Covid Helpline Support - 1032 older people their family or carers Delivery of wellbeing activity packs - 410By 2021 AUT further defined this Covid Crisis Service offer and saw numbers increase to 2278 seeing older people supported through: One to one counselling - 156 older people Covid Helpline - 1139 older people their family or carers Helpline mental health support - 374Group support - 50Delivery of wellbeing activity packs - 442Community talks and presentations - 117In July 2021 backed by feedback from service users saying that they wanted to resume face-to-face services GUGO rer depression who are struggling to know where to start and how to make their life and themselves feel better.‘Get Busy’ for people who find themselves alone a lot of the time and want to change this but don’t know how.‘Get There’ for people who have experienced bereavement or where a medical condition or illness is making it hard for them to relate to their loved ones or recognise themselves.Both the ‘Get Going’ and ‘Get Busy’ pathways include social prescribing as part of service.As standard each client will receive either 6 sessions (1 per week) of one-to-one support (50 minutes each) or 6-weeks of group support with some groups specialising in bereavement support. GUGO are flexible in their approach for example users may have less sessions with more social prescription (with the option for more sessions in the future) or more sessions across two of the pathways if needed.As with the previously RC funded programme outcomes will be measured using PHQ-9 and GAD-7 wellbeing diagnostics and session feedback forms. This will be internally evaluated with figures collated each year for reporting and to inform GUGO’s approach.
